Monel (Monel 400 and NMZhMz 28-2.5-1.5 analogues) is a copper-nickel alloy based metal alloyed with iron and manganese. It was developed at the beginning of the 20th century by a large Canadian metallurgical company and was named after its president A. Monel. Sheets, bands and foils made of this alloy are mechanically strong and highly corrosion-resistant in different environments: in water, in the air, in strong alkalis and acids.

Sheet and strip are produced in riveted hard and soft states. They can be used up to 500 °C, their melting point is almost 1350 °C. They are resistant to salt and sea water, so they can be used in salt evaporation plants. Fluorine, hydrofluoric acid, dilute sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid have no appreciable effect on monel in a vacuum. Flat rolled products are used in the shipbuilding, chemical, medical, textile, and petroleum industries. Monel pipe is included in the construction of steam generators at power plants, heat exchangers that are exposed to oxygen and pressure at high temperatures. Monel 400 can also be referred to as Nicorros. The products have good weldability. Welding is done with non-consumable tungsten electrodes, and the result is secured by a pressure treatment.
