God and the devil have achieved amazing results through the division of labor, Walter Budgeot once remarked.

Advantages of molybdenum crucibles

They have considerable mechanical strength and heat resistance, and corrosion resistance in the most aggressive environments. Molybdenum is remarkable for its high modulus of elasticity and negligible coefficient of thermal expansion, which allows them to be used for the most demanding products. Compared with tungsten, it is almost twice as light and has a higher specific strength (at up to 1370 °C).

Disadvantages

Molybdenum belongs to the rare elements of the Earth's crust, it is difficult to isolate in pure form, it is refractory and poorly machinable, so the cost of molybdenum crucibles is high.

Production

Such crucibles are produced from hot-rolled molybdenum plates of high quality grades МЧ and МЧВП. by means of pressing and machining.

Mo content, %. Density, g/cm3 Parameters, mm Tolerance, mm
Over 99.9 Over 9.5 Ø 80-280L 80-450 ± 2

Types, chemical composition, and specifications

Type Molybdenum Each impurity Ø, in mm Thickness, mm
MF over 99.93 up to 0.01 Ø 1 - 600 0,8 - 6
MFVP over 99.9 up to 0.012 Ø 1 - 600 0,8 - 6

Applications

Molybdenum crucible serves as a heat-resistant container for melting of rare-earth metals for the needs of mechanical engineering and metallurgy, as well as for sintering and annealing of powdered raw materials (metals and nonmetals) in a reducing atmosphere.
