This grade of chrome molybdenum steel exhibits good hardness and impact properties. It is used after hardening.
Heat Treatment
Temperature range from 2200ºF (1205ºC) to 1700ºF (925ºC), post curing by air cooling is recommended. Normalizing: carried out at about 1650ºF (900ºC) with air cooling. Normalization is preferred. Hardening: carried out at 1545 - 1615ºF (840 - 880ºC), water or oil cooling, depending on size and complexity of the part.
Applications
The alloy is used for medium to large cross-section components requiring high strength and impact toughness for automotive and gear and engine construction, such as forged crankshafts, knuckles, connecting rods, spindles, intermediate gears, pump shafts and gears.
