Composition and properties

AISI 403 (1.4024) stainless steel is a corrosion-resistant chrome steel with a comparatively low carbon content. According to North American ASTM standards, the composition of this steel is as follows:

  • Ultimate ductility, MPa, not more than 312;
  • Ultimate strength, MPa, not more than 481;
  • Elongation is not less than 41%;
  • Relative narrowing of the cross-sectional area to the appearance of the neck - not less than 34%;
  • Brinell hardness of 33 units.

The material is well amenable to thermal processing. In particular, the dissolution annealing, in order to increase the deformability, is carried out at temperature of 600...6500 С. AISI 403 (1.4024) sheets and strips can be cold-worked by pressure. In particular, bending, punching and shallow drawing can be performed, and for obtaining parts of more complex forms an intermediate annealing is used.

Application
