Zirconium boride (ZrB₂), also known as zirconium diboride, belongs to the group of ultra-high-temperature ceramics (UHTCs). Due to its exceptional thermal and mechanical properties, it is used for particularly demanding technical applications. The material is typically supplied as a grey to black powder and has a melting point above 3000 °C.
The combination of extreme hardness, high temperature resistance, wear resistance and good electrical conductivity distinguishes zirconium boride from many conventional ceramic materials. These properties make ZrB₂ suitable for components exposed simultaneously to high temperatures, mechanical loads and abrasive conditions.
Zirconium boride is also used as a starting material for the production of high-performance ceramics, composites and specialty coatings. In combination with other ceramic materials such as silicon carbide, its properties can be specifically tailored for particular high-temperature applications.
The element zirconium is used both as zirconium metal and in the form of advanced technical compounds. While zirconium metal is important for specialized industrial applications, zirconium boride is particularly relevant for ultra-high-temperature ceramics, protective coatings and highly stressed components.
Would you like to buy zirconium boride? The Evek GmbH online shop offers zirconium boride, zirconium metal and other technical materials. The zirconium price, zirconium metal price and zirconium price per kg primarily refer to metallic zirconium, while the price of ZrB₂ depends on purity, particle size, order quantity and delivery conditions.
