Production

29NK is melted in arc furnaces using the electroslag method. The alloying components are introduced into the composition in the form of ferroalloys. During the production process, the chemical composition is monitored very closely, which is why 29NK is classified as precision steel. Sheet 29NK is available in two versions: annealed, which is cold rolled to increase elasticity, and soft, which is called annealed.

Significant percentage of nickel allows rolling wire or foil with thickness in microns. The production of 29NK tape is regulated by GOST 15 515-70. The manufacturer guarantees a minimum deviation from the standards. According to State Standard the tape thickness = 0.05-2 mm with a downward deviation of 0.01-0.1 mm. The standard length is 2.5 m, and the width is 1-30 cm with a deviation of +0,2-1 mm. Tape 29NC thickness 0,1-0,5 mm by agreement with the customer can be produced in a length of about 100 m, but then it will have discernible welding seams. Weight of a square meter of the product depends on the thickness and can be from 0.5 to 18 kg. The surface is flat and smooth, minor damages are allowed: marks, traces of broaching, color variations. The color changes are stipulated by the standard and depend on storage conditions. Tape 29NK may be referred to as a strip, if it implies a cut.

Applications

Alloy 29NK serves for the production of medical instruments, the electrical filling of automobiles and airplanes, physical and chemical research. Tape 29NK is in demand in electrical engineering to create electric heaters with a stable high level of electrical resistance. For this purpose, especially thin ribbon or wire with thickness of 5-20 microns is used.
