Stainless Steel Characteristics

Advantages

Alloy steel is the steel that is commonly known as stainless steel. Its main advantage is its resistance to rusting in gas and liquid environments under the influence of aggressive substances. The base of such steel is chromium. Its content is usually from 12 to 20%. Steel may also contain nickel, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, silicon and others. The higher the percentage of chromium in the alloy, the higher the resistance to corrosion. At 12-17% Cr products are capable of withstanding mildly aggressive gas environments, and if the composition has more than 17% of chromium, the alloy becomes resistant to concentrated acids and alkalis.

Why stainless steel does not corrode

Its surface is covered by a protective film of chromium and nickel oxides. It is restorable in case of any damage to the products. An important role is played by such qualities of steel, strength and homogeneity of structure. Corrosion occurs when stainless steel parts are used and high voltage current is passed through and the integrity of the alloy is compromised. In an acid environment, high-alloyed steel with nickel, copper, molybdenum, and silicon additives is used. Depending on the operating conditions, the composition is selected individually. Acidity, density and temperature of aggressive medium are taken into account.

Types of stainless steel

1) chromium; 2) chromium-nickel; 3) chromium-manganese-nickel. Chromium, in turn, is subdivided into: 1) semi-ferritic, 2) ferritic, and 3) martensitic. Ferritic and martensitic are subdivided into the following types: 1) austenitic, 2) austenitic-ferritic, 3) martensitic, and 4) carbide. All grades of stainless steel have the widest application, ranging from household goods and ending with the military-industrial complex.

Buy. Price

Evek GmbH sells a wide range of rolled steel at the best price. It is formed taking into consideration the LME (London metal exchange) rates and depends on the technological characteristics of production without additional costs. The company has semi-finished products and standard and custom sizes of various grades of stainless steel in stock. This provides: 1) high efficiency of delivery within Ukraine and CIS countries; 2) cost savings for customers on the maintenance of storage facilities; 3) a clear choice of products. Quality is guaranteed by strict compliance with the technological norms of production. The terms of fulfilment of orders are minimal. The price depends on the order quantities and additional terms of delivery. With wholesale orders there is a system of discounts.
