Roller mills

Rolling technology

The roller mill is used for rolling of thin-walled and extremely thin-walled tubes. The principle is based on reciprocating motion of the stand. The rolling process takes place in a cylindrical mandrel. The number of crimping rollers depends on the applied scheme and usually amounts to 3-4 work rollers. The radius of an incomplete circular roll is cut on the perimeter of the rolls. The straight run of the stand ends in a closed circular gauge bounded by the work rollers. On account of the shims, on which work rollers are supported (roll studs or the surface of the arm) along the stand, the ring gap between the mandrel and the calibre is varied.

Gap

The initial clearance should ensure the free axial movement of the blank along the mill. The workpiece is crimped as the rollers advance and the ring gap narrows. The rollers stop at the end of the forward stroke, after which the reverse stroke of the stand begins. At the end of the cycle, the rolls move away from the billet, the rotary mechanism rotates it at an angle of 60° and feeds it for re-rolling.
