The growth of prices for rare-earth metals in 2007 was caused by the following reasons:
- Export duties on rare earth metals from the PRC,
- Decrease in licensed export from the PRC,
- increase in demand in China for REM for production of magnets,
- suspended exports from Inner Mongolia during the dam construction
dam construction,
- interruptions in supplies from Sichuan Province due to the restructuring of the mining industry and concentration of rights in the hands of a single company winning a tender.
Global demand for separated REE and metals continues to grow, as well as for blends for production of magnets, special glasses, catalysts and batteries. The global market trends are favorable for REE suppliers, the global processing capacity will match the global demand for REE.
